Sawgrass Island Preserve + Emeralda III

Close to the Emeralda Marsh is another preserve, that we visited after a check (and renewed fill of butterflies). Entirely different - the more typical central Florida Landscape.  Quiet and beautiful, but not devoid of animal life - here are some images of what we found. (First 6 images - the others are the “Rest” of what I saw at the  Emeralda Marsh.

The caterpillars in the pine give me the heebie jeebies! That close-up green dragonfly enchants me. The other dragonfly, “lift off” is one incredible photo. I like the reeds and the sky. And mallows are one of my favorite wildflowers. Oh, the snake is kind of cute, too (nice lighting on it). VERY nice post!

Spectacular bunch of photos as are all the shots in the previous posts. The leopard is impressive. Our cruelty to animals is only outdone by our cruelty to each other… really a shame, too.

You hit the jackpot! You got so many great photos during your walks! It’s too hard to pick a favorite! I love all those worms! Was surprised to see some Sandhills, we have tons of them up here in the summer. Lovely, snake but glad I didn’t run into him. :)

    Klaus Reply:

Thanks! :) There’s actually a small population of resident Sandhill Cranes. A Florida Subspecies, where the birds are a little smaller than their migrating cousins.
You see them here and there - never in large numbers, though.

Why do my comments here always start out, “Wow!”….it’s always the first word that comes to my mind when I look at your photos. So much variety here. I love the caterpillars and the snake and the close-up of the dragonfly back in particular!
