Juvenile Broad-winged Hawk light Morph

A scenic place – Circle B Bar Reserve. It also is THE place to see American White Pelicans.
The current count is over 10,000 of these Animals, that come here to winter.
And they continually fly forth and back between the lakes – and create stunning sights, doing it.

Now that the freeze in Florida is over it slowly goes back to normal. But it's also time to survey the damage.
While the image above looks idyllic – the same scene just 2 weeks ago was green. Reeds, grasses,
Water Plants were not equipped to withstand the hard freezes over several days. They died.
To put it into a perspective – for those who mock us for complaining about the cold.
The average temperature in our area is 72°F (22.5°C). During the freeze we encountered temps
of up to 50°F (27°C) below average. And that is quite something, that impacts the entire ecosystem.
Fish of all kinds died in numbers. Their system slowed down that much that they couldn't handle
breathing and they actually drowned. Which is kind of odd for a fish – but goes to show how
dire the situation was.
