I started a new habit recently. Instead of plunge myself on to a comfy seat on the backporch,
I’m taking my camera and walk the neighborhood. An old area of the town – with massive
Life Oak trees, covered in spanish moss – all a stone throw away from Lake Minneola.
Wild Hibiscus and Phlox next to their cultivated versions in gardens nearby.
Crape Myrtles in many variations, Painted leaf and so much more! Lots, but
hard to get Blue Jays, Butterflies of all sorts and in all of that I got my self a lifer!

A Polydamas Swallowtail
perching on wild Phlox.

You never know what you can find when out walking – you found a treasure.
I do the same – others walk their dog, I walk my camera.

Congratulations! That is a gorgeous shot with the lighting and the colors and the black background! Always wonderful to find something you haven’t seen before…..and right at home more or less.
Klaus: Congrats on a special capture, you have great animals and insects in Florida.
Such a lovely capture of light as well as the lifer!
How lovely! You always leave me speechless!

That could possibly be one of the best images you’ve taken. Just beautiful.
(Well, maybe a little.)
By the way, I do not EVER get side-tracked!

klaus, that butterfly and flower are beautiful. I didn’t know there was such a thing as wild hydrangea. It looks alot like wild phlox. I love the blue in the flower. I’ve never heard of that butterfly but congrats! It’s always nice to find a miracle right in your own neighborhood! (BTW, I have a new post written but blogger won’t let me upload photos right now. Hopefully they will remedy this soon!)

You’re right – it is Phlox. My bad (I’m not too good in the Flora part of Flora;) )
And for coming by so regularly – it is very much appreciated! And please do not hesitate to correct errors of mine – I like to have the correct names on my site!
Fixed it though! Thanks!
Cheers, Klaus
Such clarity!

Great photo and find. We see them occasionally in deep South Texas. My range maps show them to also be more common is South Florida. However, in some years to North Texas, Missouri, and across the deep south to Ga.
Well done.
Thanks for the visit,
Troy

Thanks for dropping by my Skywatch video clip this week at Sacred Ruminations. It took me a while to figure out how to get here from the link you left there, but I’m delighted I persevered because your photos are marvelous! I absolutely love this delicate butterfly atop the wild Hydrangea … but (being a huge fan of giraffes) the NEXT ‘odd shot’ has my mind spinning. I’m not sure why, but I couldn’t locate your ‘giraffe bug’ but I’d like to see it too. Maybe on my next visit. Now that I’ve discovered your site, I’m sure I’ll return because I’d added it to my reader.
Hugs and blessings,
