Geotagging
What I love about my job as a Graphic - and Webdesigner is that I get to tinker with stuff. A lot!!
Having idea’s and turning into something that actually works is a boatload of fun. Many things
I worked on never saw the day of light 1 - either because they didn’t turned out the way I wanted,
or the technology itself wasn’t, what it promised to be.
For a while now Geotagging images is coming more and more to the forefront and that with a
good reason. Next to the pure technical info’s that an image provides, Aperture
and Shutter
Speed etc. - the location, where the shot actually was taken is equally interesting.
And with the advent of GPS, Satellite imagery, that has become widely available - along
with those neat features of zooming in and move over the map like crazy, I always wanted
to have that on my site. After testing numerous solutions 1 I finally found something that
did fit seamlessly into my system. And here it is! Drumroll, please!!
I gathered some rather randomly selected images, one from each location I’ve been to in the
last weeks. I had all the images geotagged so the information was available.
So here’s the Album - below the map! Have fun exploring. You can zoom in - move the map
and play as you want to!

Interesting…you did a lot of work to set this up! Great choice of photos and nicely scattered around the map.

Nice tool and feature. This got me to thinking and I went back and looked at some of your other photos, such a the Purple Gallinule below and discovered that in the exif data is the geotag. It was photographed near where the Goose was photographed. Very cool.

Awwww-sum! It looks like you put a lot of work into this. It paid off. It took getting a little used to but it’s really great to get the satellite image of where you took the pics. It definitely adds to the experience!

OK, I got a bit frustrated zooming - which lake were you visiting when you shot the lovely field of Buttercups? I lived in central Florida from 1975-2006, Tampa and Lakeland. Your photos sometimes make me want to move back. Well, not quite! I also loved your foggy morning mist through the majestic live oaks! Now that I do truly miss. We had the most wonderful mature oaks in our yard. :sigh:

Uh - Lakeland - well then you recognized Lake Parke and the neat Lake Morton, huh?
The Buttercups however were shot at Lake Minneola in Clermont.
By the future geotagging excursions will be more like trail maps, concentrate
more on one trip. Today was just an example for the general geotagging enchilada!

Very clever Klaus, must be great to have the know how and knowledge to do all these things and incorporate them in to your own site, nice one. I’ve been tempted to do a course on this type of stuff, purely for my own personal site, your blog and site are pushing me even more now. Keep all this stuff coming its great. Mike.

Thanks, Mike!

It’s not all that hard, but you won’t be able to do much on blogspot or wordpress hosted sites. You’ll be needing your own site, to implement the more advanced stuff.
But that’s something I recommend anyway, once you got into a certain blogging rythmn
and got some experience under your belt…

klaus, this is very cool! I could have used your expertise today when my computer wouldn’t boot up. I was so pannicked! But then, I unplugged it and when I plugged it back in , it worked! Computers, I love them and hate them. You are a master. You have created something very interesting and fun, but are you sure you want people tracking you? (smile!)
