ABC Wednesday “E”
Today’s "E" is a Cattle Egret
Feeding Frenzy. At least an excerpt. Young Cattle Egrets - like most other Egrets and Herons are aggressive to boot! Their parents are being followed, attacked, picked and harassed, whenever they come close…
More ABC Wednesday choices can be found here! Go and check some out! It’s a lot of fun!

Wonderful photo of the Cattle Egret! You mention that the young egrets are aggressive, too. Is that why the adult bird has its bill clamped over the immature bird’s bill? I was curious about why it is called ‘Cattle Egret’, and I was happy to see that you have a fauna glossary.
Also found the NY Times article on the Endangered Species Act very interesting. Diversion tactics seem to be the trend now with all governments (in Canada, too).

Actually - the adult(right) is the one who got the bill clamped. The young one was so greedy, that in his haste he forgot, that he has to give the adult a chance to open it’s bill to feed the youngster!
Kids!!!
They are called Cattle Egrets, because you can very often find them near grasing cattle, to take advantage of the abundance of insects, that surround cattle.

Great photo as usual. Terrific breeding color,
Martha and I e-mail our congress(persons) every week, about the environment.
We usually get a polite reply saying they vote with Bush and he knows what’s best for the Country. Grrrrrr.
Now we have to decide how to spend our two votes in November.
Thanks for the great photos, Klaus, or should I say Ansel?
Top spot on IATB. Wow!
