    Great shots. I never would have believed that these were the same bird without seeing them next to each other. It just doesn’t look possible that the neck would stretch that far on the bird in the second pic. Beautiful.

    I never knew that ‘greenback’ is a nickname for the Green Heron. I love this bird and rarely get a chance to even see one - love both of these shots!

    Great shots, Klaus. I like the one where he’s stretching. There is a Green-Backed Heron that exists in South Africa, too, that looks very similar, but it’s Butorides striatus, instead of our Buterides virescens. Interesting how similar they appear, and with the same common name, but apparently, not quite the same birds.
