Why Am I (still) bird blogging?

11 Categories: Photo-Journal •June 29, 2008

This one is a response to 10000 Birds IATB (I and the Bird) question - “Why are you still bird blogging?”
One point ahead before I start - while Birds are one major part of my site, Insects, Mammal, Reptilians and Flora do play a big role as well.

So why do I? Blog about what I encounter, that is? There is no single one reason, that much is sure. One is certainly that I do it for myself. Sort memories and images for myself and my reference.
But another strong motivation is, that I am so darn infatuated with what I see when I get out, that I love to share it.  Because I find myself amazed each and every time, when I get out.
Amazed, sometimes concerned, surprised, sometimes laughing out loud, but always fascinated. One of my favorite “models” is the Great White Egret View definition in a new window.

(The Gallery below will probably make my point by itself… )

I must have 1000’s of images of them, and whenever I go, a voice in the back of my mind says: “Remember - you got plenty of Great Egrets - you really don’t need anymore.”

Surprise surprise - when I come back there will always be a couple of dozen Great Egret shots. And explaining that sums it up pretty much and is the reason for me still bird blogging.
No shot is ever alike. I put up a little gallery, displaying the enormous variety, that can be found with just this bird - multiply that with all the bird species that you encounter - and there you have your answer.
You start tuning in - to the birds, moods, habits, changes and rituals, you see the yearly repetition of behavioural patterns as well as quirks, that individual birds show.
There you have it! And watch the images - there is what motivates me in plain sight!

11 Nods! Why not add you two cents? to “ Why Am I (still) bird blogging? ”

I hope your infatuation with birds never ends because you bless the rest of us with these wonderful images! I can see why the egret catches your eye and why you can’t resist “just one more picture” of it. If I had your skill in photography, I would never get another single thing done all day long.
