I thought it would be nice to have skywatch, watching the sky and what’s beyond it! And one of my recent visits to the J.F. Kennedy Space Center was just the right opportunity to do that!

And don’t forget to visit our Skywatch Friday Host the fabulous Tom, to participate or to see what others have been showing!

Believe it or not I’ve never been to the Cape. Always coming or going as I pass with no time to detour and I guess no real inclination to see it.

Awesome, indeed. I love the shot of the heat-shield tiles; don’t see that very often. Well done.

They are such gargantuam pieces of engineering that they dwarf the very sky.

Fantastic pictures… as I was growing up the race for the moon was very much a big thing in my childhood.. The sights of the first moon landings are in my mind for ever..
Great Sky Watch.. Thank you for the memories.

Wonderful, Klaus! Is it true JFK Space Center is being closed/retired? I’d think that might have a negative on the area around it…
Perfect SWF!

You never fail to deliver! Wonderful shots. Love the first one. I don’t think I’ve ever seen those heat shield tiles that close.

Pretty one for SWF! Which reminds me the quote… “we all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon”…. Mine’s up too hope you can drop by. Happy Weekend!

Klaus ~ wonderful photos, I agree they are truly heroes in every sense of the word. It amazes me how we take the launch of the shuttle for granted. Most times, we are not even aware that it is in flight.

Great Skywatch shots. For the longest time I wanted to be an astronaut growing up - from the day the Challenger exploded when I was about 4 years old until I got old enough to realize that people who need glasses aren’t allowed to fly multimillion dollar jets in the Air Force.

The first shot is amazing. (My son is infatuated with jets and planes and he thought it was the coolest shot ever.)
