Quite strange. In the past years I’ve never ran into even one white butterfly. This year however I seem to spot them pretty often – even in the backyard of my office – which is not more than a spot of 40 X 20ft grass with some Beggar Ticks – a six lane highway on one and a city maintenance building on the other side.

But they seem especially partial to the Beggar ticks and come back. And – both genders of the Checkered White visit – easily differentiated by their markings. Males few, females more brown spots.
