Walk the shores - Part III
 
This time I’m showing some of the many Damsel - and Dragonflies, I saw, though I really neglected the Damselflies somewhat. I will make it up during my next excursions. No promises though, for they are a bit harder to spot and they do hide quite well in the grasses. Identifying these critters turns out to be a really tough business. I haven’t found any good fieldguide yet. My Audubon Insect/Butterfly and Florida Fieldguides do treat the topic somewhat halfheartedly. The best I came up with is a very good online site: http://bugguide.net/. So far it is the most comprehensive one for critters, bugs and butterflies. Once you figured out how to use it - it’s workable. You start with clicking on an icon of the insect species you’d like to find to your left and then you go browsing. This leads you from species to subspecies and sub-subspecies and so on, with pictures for your reference. Problem is - that many of the pictures are made by non-photographers, so they often lack sharpness and definition. But if you get pass that - it’s quite helpful. Give it a try! And here’s what I found. (Next up in the series: Part IV Butterflies, Part V Wildflowers and Part VI Birds…if I ever get to it, that is :) )

    I was going to name a favorite, but turns out they’re all may favorites! I can’t identify them either - to me, they all dragonflies.
