Nikon D 300 Hands on

I had the pleasure to shoot aq day with my next Camera – the Nikon D300.

And it is an incredible piece of equipment. Rocksolid and perfect handling makes you feel
comfortable right from the getgo. Outstanding the bright and huge viewfinder. Extremely
fast autofocus and what certainly is by far the best Display out there. It weighs twice of

what my current D70s weigh and that takes a little get used to – it’s just incredibly frustrating

to switch back! ;)

It takes a little while to find your way through the menu and settings – but the menu is clear and
logical, so it ain’t too bad. But without corresponding image quality – all that wouldn’t really matter.

And the D 300 delivers. How good? Well judge for yourself in the gallery below…

  1. Klaus, Great shots as usual, I would be afraid to try a new camera at this point.. My favorite of your shots would have to be the EMU,, such contrasting colors.. Great face shots by the way !

Wow! Can’t argue with results like this, Klaus. Outstanding pictures and quality, but I think your D70 takes fantastic pictures, too.

Well – as I found out – testing a camera like I did before you go out and buy is a good thing to do. If the results would not have been an actual improvement – as it is the case here – it wouldn’t have been worth the money you’re going to spend. Rather invest in a new lens.. But here I can see it and compare it to hundreds of similar shots I took before. The improvement in detail is clearly visible – and it will probably take several years, before a new camera delivers comparable improvements. And of course the old one takes good pics, the new one will just improve on that! :)

Oh boy, you’ll enjoy that and your images are quite a statement for Nikon. I had to give up all my Nikon and switch to Ol;ympus, because of weight – I just couldn’t get the Nikon and the 400 2.8 where I needed to go. I’m totally satisfied with the new equipment, but these photos would make one wonder. Beautiful!

    Hi Klaus,
It was a pleasure meeting you at Gatorland and having you show us around. Our stop there would not have been so enjoyable had we not met up. Great captures you made with the d300. I’m sure you hated to put it down, but you will have one of your own soon enough. I was at a tennis tournament this week at Amelia Island and the guy next to me had two d300’s. Certainly is a lot of camera, and very capable. And you are right about the LCD display – I was impressed. Take care, and thanks for all your help at Gatorland.

  7. I’m depressed now! I’ll say this camera delivers – wow! How ’bout that fly on the heron’s head – talk about detail! You made an excellent choice and you use it well! My little D40x will probably die soon — the way I abuse it!
