Weird day. Started out with strikingly blue sky at 7 am - and then - withing a couple of minutes morning fog appeared, draining everything in lead colored grey. But as soon as I was gone - Blue sky and no clouds in sight.
Probably a sign for me to leave and take photos!
So I went out and got plenty of loot! Some more wildflowers - the honorable mention goes to the Blue Butterwort, and I finally got a hold of the Zebra Heliconian. Was about time. Also ran into my absolute favorite Butterfly - the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
. Aside from that I spotted a new species. Not new new, of course - just around these woods it’s really unusual to spot a Great Southern White. Unusual because it is a coastal Butterfly. Finding it 80 miles inland is rare. I spotted him from quite a distance, for one because he was flying erratic and fast and because the light reflected from the white wings, so I had no problems, to follow and approach him. Although no problems is sugarcoating it. Follow a fast flying butterfly through the scrubs and you have a pretty good idea, what I mean. But I could guess it’s moves so I could cut him off to meet him - where else? At a large Lantana bush, where I could squeeze two shots off before he went off again. What else? Gulf Fritillary
, Variegated Fritillary
, Common Buckeye
, Black Swallowtail
, Spicebush Swallowtail
, Zebra Swallowtail
, Palamedes Swallowtail and several skippers and it appears that the numbers are increasing by the day. Needless to say that is something I like!
Now - without further a due - here’s the gallery!
