Faststone Image Viewer

Categories: Photo-Journal •March 17, 2008

I’ve been searching for a lightweight, easy to use, reliable and most of all fast Image Browser for years.

Having used a variety of different systems, Adobe Bridge included ( and even Lightroom, though
more interesting than Bridge) I was never really satisfied. True that everybody has a different workflow,
but when you use Photoshop as your main editor - you need an alternative - that does need much
System resources on top of Photoshop.

A couple of months ago I retested a software, that I looked at several years ago and which fell through then.
It’s the Fast Stone Viewer - available for free at the Faststone Website .

And this little program has everything I wished for.

  • Fast loading
  • Clear and uncomplicated interface
  • Basic Editing features, like crop, resize, rotate
  • When in full size view moving the mouse to the top, left, right or bottom border invokes several menus
editing(left), fileinfo(right), thumbnails(top) and quickedit (bottom) …That’s really neat and useful
  • Batch editing (resize) and rename
  • Great Favorites settings
  • One keystroke transfers the selected image to your editor (e.g. Photoshop)
  • One keystroke copies or moves image(s) to a favorite folder or a new selected one
  • Slideshow
  • Image and thumbviews are highly customizable
  • Background and layout are also easily changeable.
  • Low in resource demand. Mine is using about 1% of my memory.
  • Screen capture features

All in all a program well worth looking into - it’s ideally suited to be customized for your workflow.

Disclaimer: I don’t plug anything in behalf of anyone. I am not getting paid to write about stuff
I give a hootabout and pretend that I do. This is my opinion displayed above and I’m sticking to it.
